That’s Cool: FlipOver – Silence Jailbroken iPhone when facedown.

Although it doesn’t work 100% on my iPhone 4S, I like the idea of placing the phone in mute while it is facedown. Hopefully you don’t do this by mistake, but you can also mistakenly forget to take your phone out of mute with the physical switch.

The advantage here, is that you do not need to use the physical switch on the side of your iPhone and remember to flip it back after your meeting.

That’s Cool: Automatically Switch to Vibrate When Your Smartphone is in your Pocket.

Another cool idea.

When your smartphone is in your pocket, or on your belt, you should be able to notice when it vibrates, so this tweat can be used by people that don’t want their phones to ring. Probably not a good idea if your phone is in a bag of backpack.

If you always use a bluetooth device, then it’s not an advantage, but in my case, I would prefer that my phone NOT ring when I talking to people in person and my phone is in my holster.

Features I Didn’t Know That I Need.

Did you ever come across a feature on some device and say to yourself, That’s Cool?

It happens to me all the time. I decided I would beging to document some of these features so that the word could spread and more of us could use them.

For your Jailbroken iPhone: CleverPin – Turn Off Passcode when at home.
For those of you that want to use a passcode, but don’t need to when at home, this tweak will detect when you are at home by seeing if you are connected to your home WiFi, and disable the passcode.
Although it just would not work with my iPhone 4 or 4S, I liked the idea.

For your Jailbroken iPhone: AutoProtect – Turn Off Passcode when at home.
similar to CleverPin, I’m going to start using this one and see if it works.

RANT: Installing Microsoft’s FTP Server – It Doesn’t Work.

I followed these instructions, http://learn.iis.net/page.aspx/320/using-ftp-virtual-host-names-in-iis-7/#02

But when I connect using WordPress and it’s FTP option, Microsoft’s FTP DOS command,or Filezilla, it doesn’t work.

Maybe Microsoft’s FTP Server is working perfectly, MAYBE, but if i can’t connect using three different approaches, it’s BROKEN.

RANT: Notes From The Field, Microsoft Product – Broken

I have been a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer since 1998.

By this time, I think you would agree that I should know enough about computers & networks that I should be able to follow instructions and get things working.

Well, once again, I find myself following instructions and ending up with something that doesn’t work. Is it me? Did I make a mistake? Maybe I don’t know what I’m doing, but isn’t that why I am following instructions in the first place?

Then I think, maybe the instructions are bad or incomplete, let me Google this and see if I can find other instructions on doing the same thing, Nope, It all appears to be the same, let me rack my brain and spend hours doing something that should have taken me ten minutes. After several hours and a few days have past, I end in frustration, it must be me or my setup.

It can’t be that it just doesn’t work, that yet again, this Microsoft product is busted, MICROSOFT must know what they are doing, their stuff MUST work, it’s got to be me, maybe I should try spending more hours on getting this thing that takes ten minutes to do, working, It’s gotta be me!

Man, I can’t believe it, this happens over and over again, I think I know enough to be able to follow instructions, could it be that Microsoft makes a product that is so complicated that it can’t be easily installed and configured? That it takes almost nothing to break it.
